Maintaining what we build
On civil and infrastructure work, maintenance is usually contractual. Establishment periods, defects liability, consent monitoring and replacement obligations all sit with somebody — and on our projects that somebody is us. We monitor, report, replace failures and hand over ground that meets the condition it was signed up to, whether that is grass strike, plant survival or canopy closure.
Because we did the original work, we know what was specified, what the ground is like, and what is likely to need attention. Nothing gets lost between the contractor who built it and the contractor who inherits it.
Taking on a site we did not build
We are happy to pick up a site from another contractor, or from no contractor at all. We start with an assessment of what is actually there — what is alive, what is failing, what the irrigation is doing, what the weed and pest pressure is, and what the site was originally meant to be — and then set a programme against it.
Where a site has been neglected, that programme usually starts with recovery rather than routine maintenance: weed and pest knockdown, turf renovation, replacement planting for what has been lost, pruning and formative work on trees that have been left too long, and getting the irrigation working properly again. It is more work up front, and it is considerably cheaper than a full reinstatement.
We will tell you honestly what can be brought back and what is past saving. Sometimes the right answer is to replace a bed rather than nurse it, and you are better off hearing that at the assessment than two years into a contract.
Ongoing grounds maintenance
For developments, commercial sites, retirement villages, sports clubs and private grounds, we hold long-term maintenance contracts that keep a landscape performing year after year. A maintenance programme is built to the site and the budget rather than sold as a fixed package — the level of finish a retirement village needs is not the level an industrial yard needs, and neither should be priced as though it were.
