Miriam Corben vegetable planters
Having previously installed vegetable planter boxes for Ryman healthcare at another village in Pukekohe we were instructed to install 4 vegetable planter boxes with surround planting within the Miriam Corban retirement village in Henderson for use of the residents.
All works had to be completed to strict specifications set by the village and Ryman healthcare.
The first step was to consult with the village manager and Ryman healthcare representative to determine the exact location and dimensions of the planter boxes, a rough plan was then drawn up and sent through for approval.
We then established on site, initial works was to transplant existing plants to another area of the village and then dig out existing soil on site to allow us to install base prep for the area.
Next, we installed sturdy foundations consisting of a metal compacted base, timber edging around the perimeter of the area with a Griselinia hedge installed for privacy and protection from the elements.
Once the foundations were in place, the planter boxes were assembled on site using Macrocarpa sleepers.
To ensure proper drainage, we added gravel to the base of the planter boxes before filling them with high-quality soil.
We also installed a automated irrigation sprinkler system to each of the planter boxes.
The surrounds of the planter boxes consistent of a layer of compacted hoggin for visual and practicality purposes.
Throughout the process, we communicated regularly with the village manager and Ryman healthcare representative to ensure their satisfaction and make any necessary adjustments.
The result was a set of four beautiful planter boxes that can be easily accessed and maintained by the residents. They have provided a sense of community and engagement within the village, as residents can come together to tend to the plants and share in the harvest.
We were proud to complete this project for Ryman healthcare and the Miriam Corben retirement village, and we are confident that the planter boxes will bring joy and nourishment to the residents.
