HydroSeeding Services
Evergreen Landcare can offer the complete package when it comes to hydroseeding. We have a range of hydroseeding applications that can be tailored to suit each individual site. We have specialist seed mixes to suit each site and can design a bespoke mix to suit the clients’ needs.
Evergreen Landcare has successfully used hydroseeding as a method of re-vegetation on the following types of sites for the past 40 years:
- Major Land Development projects
- New Roads and Highways
- Mines, Landfills and Quarries
- Forestry roads and sites
- Slips and steep slopes
- Subdivisions
- Residential Lawns
Projects such as:
- Transmission Gully, Wellington
- Puhoi to Warkworth, Northland
- Waikato Expressways
- Christchurch Southern Motorway
HydroSeeding
Evergreen Landcare has HydroSeeding solutions that are specifically designed for New Zealand conditions. Each HydroSeeding application is customised to the requirements of the specific environment, used as a sediment control and to give a lush and healthy lawn finish.
HYDROSEEDING is the application of a slurry with ingredients blended specifically for each site. The slurry contains either recycled paper or wood mulch, grass seed, fertiliser and extra wood fibre to . This slurry then dries to a protective blanket. As well as preventing the soil surface from drying out this blanket also protects it from the effects of wind and moderate rainfall. The layer of pulp holds the grass seed in place until it germinates.
We Hydroseed with quality seed blends & high analysis slow-release NPK fertilisers.
An even coverage of grass over the whole area can therefore be achieved because seed is not transported by wind or over ground water flows.
We have the fleet and resource to tackle any size project across all terrain elements.
Benefits
- Steep slopes can be treated
- Immediate soil surface protection
- Vigorous growth even on low fertility
substrates - Fibrous root systems bind the soil
surface and resist erosion - Dust suppression effect
- Enhanced moisture retention
- Minimal or no seed bed preparation
required - Soil surface temperature fluctuations moderated
Evergreen Landcare has HydroSeeding solutions that are specifically designed for New Zealand conditions. Each HydroSeeding application is customised to the requirements of the specific environment, used as a sediment control and to give a lush and healthy lawn finish.
The slurry blended for each site contains either recycled paper or wood mulch, grass seed, fertiliser and extra wood fibre. It differs from standard hydro seeding in that it contains organic humus material and an emulsified tackifier. The product is dark brown in colour and bonds readily with whatever substrate it is applied to.
When HYDROSOIL® is used in conjunction with straw mulching, soil development is enhanced even further. Higher average soil surface moisture levels are maintained. This encourages the development of soil-building organisms such as decay fungi, bacteria and ultimately detritus-feeding insects.

BIOBLANKET is a bonded fibre matrix designed by Evergreen Landcare using materials made in New Zealand for New Zealand conditions.
The product is designed for use on difficult sites that need greater surface protection than that offered by conventional hydroseeding.
We have developed this product using a blend of elongated wood fibres bound together with non-toxic adhesives to create a continuous three-dimensional erosion control blanket.
Bioblanket has as textured surface, reducing precipitation run-off velocity and capturing water to maintain even soil moisture content. The matrix also forms a porous mat that allows moisture to pass through gradually. The blanket slowly degrades as vegetation is established.
Slip zones that are likely to have concentrated run-off during the establishment period, fretting soils in cut batters, soft or sandy embankments, water table restoration and out of growing season protection are all examples of when Bioblanket can provide additional protection while vegetation is being established.
HydroSkin
Utilising advances in Polymer Science HydroSkin is a unique emulsion that is diluted at ultra-low concentrations in water and sprayed onto exposed areas to create a flexible veneer (skin/crust) which totally binds up all fines in `non trafficked’ areas to eliminate dust and bind soil particles.
Suitable for all forms of exposed stockpiles ground, sand, minerals and tailings it eliminates dust, RT5 has been used by Evergreen Landcare in conjunction with seeding to help with regenerating slip damage and earthwork sites.
Benefits
- Emulsion of `microscopic superabsorbent polymers’
- Heavy viscous polymers to bind fine dust particles
100% environmentally safe - Withstands rain events and can be applied with marking dye for area identification
- Cost effective
- Zero harm to machinery
Hydro Mulch
Hydro Mulch is a new product developed by Evergreen Landcare. It is a cost-effective solution to stabilise and vegetate areas that difficult to access or where traditional straw mulch using a straw blower is not practical.
Finely chopped straw can be added to the hydro mulch mix along with tackifiers, mulches, seed and fertilisers to provide the one-stop shop mix to achieve the desired result.
Hydro Mulch can be used to stablise areas prone to water runoff, erosion, and slipping, to provide stabilisation and vegetation establishment.
Hydro Mulch is the ideal solution for swale drains, around culverts and berm areas.
Turf Hydro Seeding
Hydroseeding is a process of combining water, premium grass seed, fertiliser, wood mulch fibre and tackifier together. The fertiliser and mulch mixture provides a microclimate that encourage germination, protects the seed, and provide nutrients for a highly effective grass strike.
Choosing Hydroseeding is a premium and cost-effective option for obtaining strong grass growth and a great looking lawn.
Once the ground has been prepared, the hydroseeding mix is sprayed onto the desired areas by our hydroseeding trucks. The mix is made on the truck, pumped through hoses, and applied to the soil. We have hoses that can be rolled out up to 100m plus to access your site.
The hydroseed mixture bonds the seed to the soil which helps to keep birds away and prevents erosion from any windblown soil and light rain.
Hydroseeding can be done all year around. Germination time will depend on the season, soil temperatures and moisture levels play a big part in the speed of germination. In perfect growing conditions (Spring / Autumn), germination can be achieved in just 7 days. However, generally lawn germination will take approximately 10-14 days depending on watering and ground temperatures.
Our Lawn Care Guild will be provided to you to help direct you to successfully achieving the best results.
